We had our end of first semester belt testing on Thursday of last week. I have included pics from it. The ministry on campus continues to grow. Our challenge is that eventually our students leave through graduation and it is difficult to get them to the higher belts. Right now we have one student who has her blue tip on green belt. She has 1 and ½ years left as a student. And then there is a new guy (first year) who is at green belt right now.
We are having an outreach project in a village about 7 hours from here. We are going there to help a local church with evangelism. About 6 of the students who are going are with me in CTKD so we are planning a martial arts outreach to the kids in the village. We will have a 4 day clinic and each day we will break the kids up into 4 groups with each group working on a skill. At the end of the clinic we are going to use the color of the belts to share the gospel….
White – purity (how God mad us and our relationship with Him)
Black – sin (we are all sinners and our sin separates us from God)
Red – the blood of Jesus (cleanses us from our sin and can re-establish our relationship with God)
Yellow/Gold – Heaven (when we make a decision to ask Jesus into our lives we now have a way to spend eternity with God in heaven)
We leave for the project on Saturday, June 25th and return to Mafikeng on Friday, July 1st. PRAY for our efforts there. That all we do will bring glory to God. This is our dirst attempt in using CTKD as an outreach. We used soccer last year during the World Cup, so we have experience with that. I think it will be a great attractor of kids. This is the kind of potential outreach that can be done if you guys would want to bring a team from the USA here in the future to help with the outreach ministry here!
It is also winter here and very cold, so PRAY for a warm spell during those days.
In His work together,
Wes Gestring
